Hello Oregon! 🌲 🌋 l’ve started a “quick” 196 mile walk north on the PCT from Bend, OR to the Columbia River Gorge at Cascade Locks. The photo is from my first campsite on this stretch. 🏕 It’s been a scenic start!
Mica Lake. I went swimming here! 🏊♂️ On the PCT in Washington. July 31, 2019. 🥾
Loving the lupine! ❤️🌸 On the PCT in Washington. July 30, 2019.
Woo!!! 🥳 🇨🇦 I finished walking Washington state: from the Oregon/Washington border into Canada on the PCT. In total it was 514 miles with 112,000 ft of elevation gain. 🏔 🏔 🏔 I haven’t had cell phone signal or internet access for almost two weeks. I plan to post my photo highlights as throwbacks/flashbacks. 📸 Northern Washington is visually stunning! This does not mean that I have hiked the whole PCT. This year I’ve hiked 1400 miles including the desert section 🌵, Washington ☔️, and some of Northern California ☀️. I have not hiked the Sierra ⛰ or Oregon 🌲 Washington was a physically and mentally demanding section. I’m still collecting my thoughts. I’m feeling grateful for safe passage, my body not shutting down (though it felt close sometimes 😅) and the support of friends and family. #pct2019 #pct #pcta #pctig #teamzpacks #trekthepct #pacificcresttrail #mexicotocanada
Spectacular scenery along the Washington PCT. I hiked the next 70 miles from Snoqualmie Pass to Stevens Pass. It’s been one of my favorite sections so far. It’s got big elevation changes, volcano views, and deep blue lakes. My spirits are higher. My feet feel much better after my rest day at Snoqualmie Pass. 🦶 It’s amazing what one day of rest can do. There was a little rain, but it looks like the sun is back now. The border is less than 200 miles away. Getting there! 🇨🇦 . pct #pct2019 #pcta #pctig #pacificcresttrail #trekthepct #alpinelakeswilderness
Washington continues to amaze. Loads of evergreen forest🌲, lakes💧, and alpine views here. 🏔 I hiked 11.25 days without a rest day covering the southern half of the state, 248 miles and 47,000ft elevation gain. I’m tired! I’ve heard the northern half ahead has more challenging terrain. I’m enjoying a rest day at Snoqualmie Pass. The legend of Triple Whammy continues with my eating habits. 🥘 🥘 🥘 In 26 hours in town I’ve eaten a 3 egg omelet, 2 pancakes, 2 pizza slices, 2 cheeseburgers with avocado, fruit smoothie, quinoa salad, 2 orders of French fries, teriyaki chicken and rice bowl, Cheetos and Bugles platter, hot dog with chips, and 6 beers (which have critical nutrients!). Remembering the skills learned in the desert portion of the PCT, I’m also packing out pizza tomorrow in my backpack! 🍕 While the scenery has been incredible, It’s been a challenging time. My feet have been hurting. I pushed hard after time off the trail. I’m also missing family and friends back home. The next section (Snoqualmie Pass to Stevens Pass) has been described to me by someone as “the hardest hiking they’ve ever done” and by someone else as ”their favorite hiking they’ve ever done.” I’m intrigued. I’ll find out tomorrow! 👣 #pct2019 #pct #pcta #pctig #mexicotocanada #trekthepct #cascademountains
Washington has lived up to its reputation with over half my days with rain so far. But the sun came out for this awesome stretch of trail above the tree line! I’m 150 miles through the Washington PCT. #pct2019 #pcta #pctig #pacificcresttrail #mexicotocanada #trekthepct #goatrockswilderness
The first stretch of the Washington PCT has been beautiful. It’s very green here, plants are everywhere.🌱 🌲 The start near Cascade Locks is low, hot, and muggy. It’s a jungle (last slide). I’m getting into higher elevations now. Yesterday I did my first “12 by 10” (12 miles before 10am) and finished 23.5 miles before 3pm so I could make it into town with time to relax. Food, laundry and shower are very motivating! #pct #pcta #pct2019 #pacificcresttrail #pctig #trekthepct
I’m starting my next big PCT section: Washington state. I started today at the Bridge of the Gods (Washington/Oregon border). I’ll walk 514 miles north and cross into Canada on foot! 🇨🇦 👣 #pct2019 #pct #pacificcresttrail #pctig #pcta #mexicotocanada #trekthepct #cascadelocks #columbiarivergorge
I’m hiking the Northern California PCT in multi-day chunks. A lot of it is driving distance from my house. 🌁 The Hat Creek Rim is a hot and dry section including a 30 mile stretch without a natural water source. I carried 7 liters of water (last photo) 💦 But that was unnecessary. The temps were in the low 70s with a breeze, and there was a water cache too. Easy hiking! #pct2019 #pct #pcta #pctig #trekthepct #burneyfalls #burney #burneyfallsstatepark #hatcreek #lassennationalforest #mexicotocanada
